Similar to the individualism/collectivism balance I referenced a few days ago, I believe a balance can be aimed for between cooperation and competition. Capitalist society swings too far in the latter direction, making competition in society a matter of life or death (while simultaneously stifling certain forms of competition by way of monopolies) but there’s room for good-natured competition in an otherwise cooperative society. It can be generative of a diversity of choice and a more abundant life.
