Remembering photographer Jerry Uelsmann, who passed away four years ago this week. It's hard to imagine what life was like before Photoshop, because for many of us, it's always been part of the creative process. That's what makes photographers like Jerry remarkable — they could see things that most people couldn't. I know many have been influenced and inspired by his work, and for good reason. It was cinematic and painterly when most photography looked entirely different. I met Jerry briefly at a festival years ago. I was a youngster, and he was a legend, but he was soft-spoken, funny, and very kind. Jerry changed how many people thought about photography, which is a beautiful thing. RIP.
