Things this round of edits has taught me:

  • Chapters will move around. A lot. Thank god for Scrivener

  • Focus on one thing at a time. If today is an organization day, don’t worry about prose.

  • References are your friend. My writing is so much smoother when I have my favorite books to look back on for inspiration

  • Don’t be afraid to kill your darlings. It hurts. It sucks. But your story changes over time and not everything that worked in round one will work this time. Save your favorite lines and recycle them if you want, but edits are your friend. It will make your book better.
