On Minimum Effective Dose of Liberated Self
Spiritual traditions are like chemotherapy:
(1) they are rare discoveries, the fruit of hit-or-miss experimentation
(2) they vary in therapeutic index (selectivity in targeting only the essential vs. causing collateral damage)
What is Minimum Effective Dose of Liberated Self?
The 'Self-Complex' is a pattern of emphasis, de-emphasis, and setting aside of the unitary field of sensation for use as a fixed reference basis to orient meaning, which pattern has biological, social, and other genesis.
Liberated Self can arise from:
* Release of fixation of the reference basis for meaning
* Release of having a reference basis for meaning at all
* Release of the patterning the field of sensation at all
The Minimum Effective Dose of Liberated Self is merely the first.
Spiritual practices can be like low-therapeutic-index chemotherapy: effective but harsh.
Cessation works, but with collateral damage.
As with effective remedies extracted from plants, what elements are actually 'doing the work' in spiritual traditions are not always clear.
"Making up your own spiritual tradition" is like alternative cancer therapy: an experiment highly prone to failure, but sometimes discovering a new remedy.
I expect that the cultural refinement of the minimum effective dose of liberated self will continue beyond my lifetime.
