The title of this week’s newsletter comes from something Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison in a town hall I watched online:

“We need the poetry of now. We need the songs of now. We need the rap music of now. We need the symphonic orchestra of now. We need the powerful aesthetic that can do something that no politician can do, and that is to inspire people.”

Every week I sit down to write this newsletter and in these past few weeks I have struggled to find the words. I think Ellison’s quote reminds us that we have to keep trying. In the name of humanity, life, empathy, and standing up to the forces that simply wish to destroy.
