The problem is that the Church is made up of individual people who live in time and space. And these people all are sinners. I mean, really—one has to ponder just for a single solitary moment, at least once a day, the depth and breadth and measure of how sinful individual people can be, and that before you put them together into groups to see what they will do with all their sinful thoughts and ideas. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, not to demand that all people everywhere, by the power of their own wills, transform themselves into his likeness. That is the ultimate goal, but it can’t be accomplished by people who can’t distinguish their morally reprehensible Epstein stained right hands from their ethical non-monogamous left ones. Stick any perverse sin in there that you like and you are looking at the kind of person Jesus came to earth to save.
