This year's cramp bark harvest. Despite the rain here in Devon, it is possible to harvest stems for bark! This is cramp bark (Viburnum opulus) also known as guelder rose. Fortunately it does well in a moist location. The bark has excellent antispasmodic action, it can be peeled off, dried and then powdered for capsules or made into a tincture. You can read more about using tree bark in one of my previous posts, ‘MAKING RECIPES #9 Growing and using medicinal tree bark’. And this woody plant can be coppiced, cut back to near the ground every few years - a sustainable harvest!
