As ever, just turned down an offer of a free book from a major publisher: I don’t accept freebies, and I don’t write about books that have been pitched to me. I explained this, and asked —nicely—to be taken off the mailing list. As ever, the lovely young person who replied told me she didn’t blame me. I hope one day, if they don’t get to her first, she will become someone who leads reform of the decrepit corporate publishing industry, and starts it on a path to integrity.
