Early morning. Just the cat and I, curled up on the sofa. Today is the first day I speak about my new novel The Fox in public. The day the process of transference begins, where the book journeys out of my head and into the heads of others. There will be many more days of talking about it and probably several crises of confidence along the way. I feel there needs to be a ceremony of some sort, to honour the time this book and I had together. ( do I need to release something into the air? A balloon? A paper lantern?! ) The two and three quarter years it took to write it. The people I met along the way. The solo trips. The lightbulb moments. That I got to write another novel! A novel that might move people enough for them to want to keep it, so that it sits gathering dust on their book shelves. A novel that will live longer than I will. How lucky I am. And so it begins….
