Today I spent 1 hour slowly picking up scavenging ants from under our dinner table and putting them outside on the grass, one by one, with my two kids.

We could have vacuumed them up. Or sprayed a chemical. But then my kids wouldn't have appreciated the emotional rewards with saving another life, regardless how small.

I'm proud of myself and so damn proud of my kids for putting their love and affection into a task we're typically taught to treat as pest control.
