The app for independent voices

I’m sure most of you reading my Substack are already aware of the recent NCERT controversy. I have said this before, and I will say it again: this order sets a deeply dangerous precedent. The longer it remains unchallenged, the more disgraceful it is.

I was so happy to hear that three academics who were blacklisted (Prof. Michel Danino, Suparna Diwakar, and Alok Prassana Kumar) have moved the SC against the order. It takes real courage to stand up in moments like these. The Court has now listed the matter for hearing on May 8. In the meanwhile, 51 academics from institutions across India have written to President Murmu urging her support and intervention.

But this is not a niche concern just for academics and lawyers. It affects each of us. It is a question for every single citizen of India: Can we speak the truth without being silenced? Can our children learn the truth without their books being banned?

In a moment like this, we need to show support to those who stood up for our constitutional values. It is the least we can do.

With the hearing next month, numbers can show undeniable public concern and support. I know so many of us care deeply, but we need to actively voice it. I strongly encourage you to read the letter, understand the issues, and sign this petition.
