Since competition is so fierce, all the kids who are getting in must be bona fide geniuses, right? They’re probably breezing through advanced and accelerated classes from the get-go, excelling even in famously-difficult math courses at places like Harvard, and certainly ably reading and analyzing a few novels a year.
