Informal enforcement of norms is more appropriate for groups that are below the Dunbar number in size. It is problematic to substitute emotional moral instinct for the rule of law in larger societies.

Women still do much of the work of caregiving and moral upkeep. They are motivated to notice harm. Yet when they do, they are mocked as Karens or Awfuls — symbols of control and overreach.
