Despite the widely held view that Chinese consumer spending would roar back as household savings rate reduced, that is not occurring.

Instead Chinese households are saving more than ever and seemingly remain circumspect about the future of China’s economy.

A pretty understandable viewpoint even from a solely domestic perspective, let alone factoring in a deteriorating global economy.
