Back in 2007, I led a group of college kids to Jena, Louisiana to protest the arrest and expulsion of 6 black high school students. The crowd gathered was ready to storm the courthouse and demand justice but Rev. Jesse Jackson calmed the crowd down and definitely saved lives that day. Waking up and learning that he passed away made me think of him and others in that post-King generation who tried to keep the fight for Black dignity alive.
