Before the meatpacking district gentrified into MePa with high end designer stores (both flashy and quiet wealth), exclusive bottle clubs and restaurants, and tourists, Manhattan Refrigeration somehow (I do not know the details) pumped cold air through underground tunnels to the meatpackers. The tunnels and manhole covers still exist. The Manhattan Refrigeration building is now an apartment building.
