While O’Donovan cautions that a reading of a civilisation must be provisional and heuristic, he notes that true complimentary truths about liberalism can exist at the same time: it is a political order which ‘bears the narrative of the Christ event stamped on it’ and it can also display ‘the emergence of the pseudo-Christ of the last times’.
