The app for independent voices

There’s a kind of void on the American left that some commentators (notably in the New Yorker) think is church-shaped. I’m not so sure about that diagnosis. I worry that the argument, even if well-intentioned, ends up as either an altar call or a strip-mining operation. I do think religion has something real to fill that void. But only if we can think carefully about history.
