All the time we see the word trigger. Those emotional landmines - the unexpected sound, the critical comment, or the specific smell - that instantly hijacks our nervous system, pulling us backward into stress, anxiety, or an old trauma response.
Instead of triggers I’d like to read about your glimmers. A sensory cue that signals to your nervous system that you are safe and connected. Some of mine are:
1. Warm beverages (tea or coffee)
2. The smell of rain or fresh-cut grass
3. Listening to The Fontaines DC
4. Feeling rain on my skin
5. Cuddling or playing with my cat
6. The scent of petrol (I don’t know why)
7. A genuine I-can’t-breathe giggle with my partner and friends.
8. The satisfaction of completing a task I’ve put off for too long
9. The smell of a bonfire
10. Cozy blankets or soft fabrics on me - like a fluffy dressing gown or a fuzzy coat
Just those simple, quiet daily sparks that get us through.
