The reason Remember the Titans is beloved and memorable is because it’s actually a musical.

When Alan (Ryan Gosling) and Blue are trying to bond, it’s over “Act Naturally” by Buck Owens. (“Does the term ‘cruel and unusual punishment’ mean anything to you?”)

As the team grows together, we see them singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in the locker room.

When adversity strikes, and fears grow that “if we play like this against Groveton, we’re going down,” they have an impromptu meeting in the gym: “Coach didn’t call this meeting…we did.” Next thing you know, they’ve got a beat going on their hands and thighs and a little pump-up call and response.

Then of course, when the team shows they’ve outgrown their need for Herman’s heavy hand, they begin warming up a little bit differently, “We are the Titans! (We are the Titans!) Mighty mighty Titans (Mighty mighty Titans).”
