As an English professor, I cannot begin to tell you how disheartening and demotivating it is to read AI-generated essay after AI-generated essay. My hands are tied-I can’t grade this stuff, so I have to turn the students in. I didn’t go to grad school to be a cop.

The worst of it though is that these students are totally fine with turning over their voices to distant corporations owned by rich men to save a few hours of work. They are self-silencing out of laziness.

It just sucks, and it sucks all the joy out of teaching.
