I suspect blue light blocking glasses do a lot more for the bottom line of the companies selling them than they do for the user!

As you pointed out in your review, the 2025 meta-analysis found that the glasses increased total sleep time by only 9 minutes - though admittedly the total number of participants in the studies was just 49, so we likely don’t have enough data to know for sure.

I think they mostly sit at the nexus of people looking for a quick fix rather than a behavioural shift and manufacturers jumping on the latest trend.

If we appreciated how much disrupted circadian rhythms can impact long-term health, we’d probably be more inclined to shift our days around a little.

In an RCT of adults with insomnia, blue light blocking glasses added ~30 minutes of sleep.

They're not a cure. They won't fully replace dimming your lights or cutting out screens. But if you have unavoidable evening light exposure, they're a reasonable layer of protection.
