I said this elsewhere, but - I kinda messed this post up. It’s not so much that all the huge numbers in AI makes everyone greedy; it's that it makes everything else feel insufficient. It’s the feeling of putting in years and decades to build a career or a company, and then having an 18-month-old startup blow past. It's the feeling of vertigo, that the world is spinning faster than you can keep up with. It's what’s on the other side of now being "such an exciting time" - what that really means is that the rules and social benchmarks for success are getting rewritten, and things that used to seem like fulfilling ambitions now look like settling on irrelevancy.
We're all supposed to be very excited about all of this, and to say what a great moment it is, and I suppose it might be, but sort of in the way that a zombie apocalypse is exciting: The old laws don't matter, you get to write your own, and you might end up a the king of a new society - but it's probably more likely that you get eaten and die.
