The NIV and many other translations are correct in that the bold “his” and “he” that the ESV and NET have added above are not in the Greek text. They added these words because of their pre-formed bias against women teaching, exhorting, or leading. They put words in Paul’s mouth. And they did so only when translating Paul’s instructions on spiritual gifts that involved teaching or leadership.
