I recently started a book titled “Theosis: The true purpose of human life,” written by the abbot of a monastery in Greece.
I’ve heard reference to “theosis” as a concept but this is my first time reading about it.
It’s got me thinking, what if the chief aim of the Christian life is neither personal moral development nor social/political reform?
What if the chief aim of the Christian life is union with God, our Creator?
What if the whole life of the church, its liturgies and sacraments and calls to reorient our lives around the person of Christ is really just about this one thing?
It changes everything, does it not?
