The new USDA food “pyramid” is getting a lot of attention
official dietary guidance is emphasizing:
Whole, unprocessed foods
Adequate protein at every meal
Vegetables as a foundation (not grains)
Healthy fats embraced, not avoided
Is it perfect? No pyramid ever will be when everyone's needs are different.
Is it a massive improvement? Absolutely.
The old pyramid told us to eat 6-11 servings of grains daily, minimize fat, and treat protein as an afterthought. That advice contributed directly to our current metabolic health crisis.
This updated version aligns far more closely with what research shows supports stable blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, and long-term metabolic health:
Prioritize protein (25-30g per meal)
Ample vegetables (fiber + nutrients)
Healthy fats (satiety + absorption)
Choose whole foods over processed
This is the foundation of metabolic health🧡
