It’s impossible to tell if the dopes who run this place believe this or not, but it’s immaterial because the bet is that enough people here will buy it to keep the “content” coming so they can continue to either secure outside funding, or get a larger entity (like Google/Netflix/Paramount) to buy them. The idea that this is a “new business model” is, on its face, absurd.

Substack is a writing app. And way, way more.

The media revolution that this platform represents is not a format revolution, nor a technological revolution—it’s a business model revolution.
