Calls for Investigation into Democrat Candidate Swapping in Canyon County. By Greg Pruett (08/13/24)

In an excellent letter, Republican Precinct Committeewoman, Heidi Smith of Canyon County, asked the Idaho Attorney General’s office to investigate the Idaho Secretary of State’s office regarding the attempt by Democrats to swap two candidates in District 11 — Toni Ferro and Anthony Porto.

This swap allegedly violates Idaho law. Republican candidate for District 11, House Seat A, Kent Marmon, challenged the Democrat candidate swap under Idaho Code 34-717(2), which states a candidate cannot be reappointed to another race unless the candidate who was previously running in the race has died. All candidates are alive.

Idaho Secretary of State Phil McGrane confirmed that someone in their office told the two candidates they could withdraw and be appointed to different races. McGrane said that communication was a mistake.

McGrane's office contacted the AG’s office to find a remedy, and McGrane will announce it soon. The Democrat Party did not reply to inquiries as of press time.
