Idaho left behind as education choice advances nationwide. By Ronald M. Nate, Ph.D. (08/16/24)

Dr. Nate explains that eleven US states now offer universal education choice accounts for students, allowing state education dollars to follow students to private schools or other options that best meet student needs.

He discusses recent efforts in Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, and Utah to enact universal education choice and explains some of their strengths and weaknesses.

He also points out that two key Idaho executives — Governor Brad Little and Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield — have regularly resisted education choice but now may be more receptive.

Finally, he urges the 2025 Idaho legislature to enact a "Gold Standard" education choice plan that will be the best of the best. (A Gold Standard plan is outlined here: idahofreedom.org/setting-the-education-….)
