A new K-6 school — Idaho Novus Classical Academy — has opened at Avimor, near Eagle, ID. The school eventually plans to build up to a K-12 model by adding new classes as students "grow up."

About 70 students are from the Avimor neighborhood, with the rest — approximately 300 students — from across the Treasure Valley and even other states. Eventual capacity will be 702 students up to the 12th-grade level.

Idaho Novus Classical Academy is an American Classical Academy, built along the Hillsdale College model described here: k12.hillsdale.edu.

Vincent Kane, founding principal, says students at the Avimor school will receive an education similar to what students received a few generations ago.

“Our vision is to form future citizens who uphold the ideal of our country’s founding and promote the continuation of our American experiment,” Kane said.

Kane reiterated that the school is a tuition-free public charter school: nonpartisan and nonsectarian, with no religious affiliation. He stated that “We teach virtues which have endured the test of time. … Values are deeply personal, and we think it’s the family’s role to teach their children’s values.”

The school teaches six non-partisan, non-religious virtues, qualities that good citizens should have: courage, courtesy, honesty, perseverance, self-government and service.
