Firearm Registration In Idaho? Yes. By (Christy) Zito for Idaho (09/04/24)

Christy Zito weighed in on the “LeadsOnline” controversy in Twin Falls. Recall that several local gun shops refused to use LeadsOnline (at the behest of Twin Falls police), in order to protect their customer’s personal information and resist firearm registration (which is illegal in Idaho per HB295 and IC 18-3326).

Sen. Glenneda Zuiderveld asked Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador to weigh in on the Twin Falls issue, as he is allowed to do by statute. AG Labrador’s opinion confirmed that local government agencies’ requirement to turn over private information about citizens and their firearms is against the law. The opinion also stated that gun shops cannot even voluntarily turn over this information, as the records being kept by any Idaho police agency violate Idaho law and the Second Amendment.

Zito summarizes and links to various articles in Idaho Dispatch (many of which we also covered), so it’s well worth your time to read her excellent summary.
