Foreign-born Presidential Candidate to Appear on Idaho Ballots. By Greg Pruett (10/01/24)
Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai was born in India to Indian parents. He immigrated to the United States when he was seven years old. His a naturalized, but natural born, citizen.
He is on the Idaho ballot, running as an Independent for President. (He has been removed from the New Jersey ballot.)
Ayyadurai’s appearance on the ballot likely is unconstitutional (U.S. Constitution Article 1, Section 2, Clause 5).
“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”
Secretary of State Phil McGrane’s office received a complaint about this. SOS Communications Director Chelsea Caratinni admitted that an official complaint has been filed and if they had received the complaint earlier, Ayyadurai would not have been allowed to stay on the ballot.
ED NOTE Should the SOS office verify candidate qualifications and ballot measures before printing the ballots?
