ICAN Catches Facebook Dictating Content On CDC’s Website And Trying To Avoid FOIA In Discussions With CDC (10/07/24)

ED NOTE
-> Are you still using Facebook even after you know what it has done?
-> Did you know that government agencies still use Facebook -- often exclusively -- to communicate with and update the public?
-> And did you know that you MUST have a Facebook account and log in to view posts, even if they are marked as public?
If you work with or receive information from a government agency, be sure to let the agency's public information officers (PIOs) know about these issues. We did this during unprecedented local wildfires. Result: The agency began more frequent updates to its own website and provided an alternate source — YouTube — for its update videos. (Of course, we prefer updates appear on official, non-third-party, non-censored options, but providing an alternative to Facebook was a step forward.) Overall, we were very impressed by the responsiveness of the wildfire PIOs to community feedback. More about Inciweb and wildfires:
