More Prop 1 Lies. By Dorothy Moon, IDGOP Chairwoman (10/10/24)

Proposition 1 will radically transform Idaho’s election system into a jungle primary and ranked choice voting (RCV). It is overwhelmingly opposed by well-informed Idaho voters, especially Republicans.

As usual, the Prop 1 supporters are prevaricating about what Prop 1 really is about. Dorothy Moon sets readers straight with these points:

  • Condemning and opposing Prop1 are: The Idaho GOP State Central Committee and the Republican National Committee, our Republican national delegation, our state Republican legislators (who voted to prohibit RCV), Gov. Brad Little, Attorney General Raúl Labrador, Sen. Mike Crapo, Sen. Jim Risch, Sen. Russ Fulcher, Donald Trump. For more, see

  • Prop 1 is NOT an Open Primary initiative (despite the false statements of supporters): Prop 1 would create a top-four jungle primary that eliminates party affiliation altogether. “No more Republicans, no more Democrats, just the longest ballot you’ve ever seen!”

  • Prop 1 is Ranked Choice Voting, but supporters use the “softer” term Instant Runoff.

  • Prop 1 Claim: Changing the election system would improve security.

Prop 1 Fact: Prop 1 would undermine election security because RCV is nearly impossible to audit by hand; trust in our elections will plunge.

  • Prop 1 Claim: Voters in cities and states that have adopted ranked choice voting are happy with the new system.

Prop 1 Fact: Oakland School District went through months of recounts and lawsuits due to quirky computer counting of votes. Alaska already has an initiative to repeal ranked choice voting, which they quickly grew to hate.

  • Prop 1 Claim: The initiative will make elections more “inclusive” and “representative.”

Prop 1 Fact: Anyone who takes any strong stand on issues will be excluded in favor of those promoting banal and milquetoast candidates in every race.

Moon concludes:

Idaho voters know and trust our current election system, and those voters have seen fit to elect Republicans in more than 80% of our state’s districts. This explains why the other side supports this radical initiative — Democrats always try to change the rules when they can’t win.

Republican voters shouldn’t fall for the gaslighting. Vote no on Proposition 1, vote no on ranked choice voting.
