ICAN’s Lawsuit Results in CDC Deleting its Policy of Censoring Claimed “Misinformation”! (11/26/24)
ED NOTE
THE FIRST AMENDMENT GUARANTEEING FREE SPEECH IS NOT DEAD AFTER ALL! The CDC obviously has seen the writing on the wall, and ICAN’s lawsuit has led this censorious institution toward the light.
ICAN filed a lawsuit against CDC for blocking an individual on its official X (Twitter) account. The result: CDC unblocked all users and deleted its policy of blocking users for purported “misinformation.” This is a HUGE win!
Details:
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of journalist Lindsay Jones whom CDC blocked on X after she posted comments criticizing CDC policy. Shortly after ICAN filed the suit, CDC promptly unblocked her and others.
Recently CDC made significant changes to its public comment policy.
Previous Policy: Allowed CDC to hide or delete comments that it felt contained “misleading or false information,” defamation, name calling, personal attacks, or spam. It also stated that “repeated violations” may “cause the author to be blocked.”
New Policy: No such restrictions! This applies to all CDC sites, social media profiles, blogs, and applications that allow public comments.
