The University of Michigan will no longer require diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements for faculty hiring, promotion, and tenure decisions. Unfortunately, University Provost Laurie McCauley said that, despite the policy shift, DEI remains in its core values and the institution will look for less controversial ways to weave DEI themes into its policies.
