In the other place - X - Ross Barkan is assailing Jesse Singal for his tenacious and courageous exposure of the fast-tracking of sex reassignment for children, mainly gay and lesbian, without any solid medical basis.

He is trying to argue that good journalism should not happen if some bigots might want to deploy it for nefarious ends.

I just want to say that in my view, Jesse’s reporting has been scrupulous and prophetic and courageous. If Pulitzers were still given on the basis of merit instead of ideology, he’d have racked up several.

I recommend reading a new and fantastic biography of Marx by Reuters reporter Mary Gabriel, "Love and Capital: Karl and Jenny Marx and the Birth of a Revolution" (2011). Unlike other biographers, Gabriel gained access to the Marx family's hundreds of letters to each other, stored in a vault in Moscow, if I remember correctly. Very different from anything else one is likely to find on Marx, Engels, the family, and the times .....

Thanks for your comment, Michael. This is John Leake replying. I read a review of this book. While it sounds charming, I cannot escape my perception that poor Jenny von Westphalen developed the typical normalcy bias and trauma bond of a long mistreated women. Karl could occasionally be sweet and poetic, but this was but momentary relief from life with a terrible and selfish man. Marx sounds like a selfish, self-absorbed, artist with bipolar disorder.

So-called "bipolar disorder" is as "real" as presents from Santa Claus, but NOT more real.... And "socialism" is just another "ISM"....it's all fakery....and brain-washing social control....
