The app for independent voices

The Cara Portfolio Assessment Report #5 will be delayed again. This time the issue is something to do with ActiveX, Chrome, Excel, and Ziggma.

It’s frustrating to be caught up in the fights between Big Tech as they force us into relying on their non-standard ecosystems.

It is what it is. I’ll move on to what I can do.

One positive development is that Kaimu and I will soon be co-authoring a weekly column. Kaimu is the pen name of my colleague Stephen, who owns an orchid farm and executive retreat on Hawaii’s Big Island. Followers of billcara.com over the past 20+ years know him well, and attendees of my investment conferences in the Bahamas and Whistler have had the chance to meet him. I rarely let a week pass without receiving an email asking me to encourage him to participate more actively—and today, he agreed.

Stephen now lives near Houston, Texas, but also spends time in Hawaii and Los Angeles, where he maintains investments. Because his father was a senior executive at Chevron, Stephen spent much of his youth in Venezuela and Australia. Like me—though even more pronounced—Stephen is a fervent right-wing independent. But unlike me, he delves deeply into politics, so much so that I gave him his own dedicated tab on the pre-Substack version of billcara.com. He is very popular among many, though less so with those on the left—a group I strive to get along with, best achieved by avoiding certain topics that Stephen devours with relish.
