I love this! It also matches a little theme on my notes from yesterday that focused on a tiny straw house and strawbale houses, and cob construction . . . . Thatched roofs were mentioned in the discussion. ;)

Irises growing along the ridge of a thatched roof in Honfleur, Normandy - it's a traditional architectural technique called chaumierelesiris. The presence of the iris rhizomes stabilises the thatch and absorb moisture, helping to keep the thatch dry. The thatchers lay down clay along the ridge and plant irises.
