Today was my birthday, and it doesn't matter.

Our family experienced tragedy this morning when my daughter's boyfriend of three years (damn near my son-in-law) was killed in an accident before sunrise.

I met my daughter at the scene and sat with her beside him on the ground as we waited for the medical examiner. I hope that is something you never have to do.

He was a good man, the kind of guy who volunteered his time, talents, and strength to anyone who needed them. He was incredible with kids, though he'll never get the chance to have his own. He was a good old boy, a guy who could wrench and farm and hunt like no other. He filled a room with stories and life, and honestly, his volume was too much for me at times.

But tonight, I would give anything to hear him laugh too loud. We take too much for granted, friends. I missed all of the best parts until now.

Jimmy would have been 30 this weekend. We will bury him instead. Please hug your people extra tight tonight for us, you just never know. 🖤
