One notebook runner goes again today in ALMA LATINA (2.48 Pontefract).
Ralph Beckett’s filly is 11-8 in the betting, and gets 5lb from two rivals, including one vying for favouritism in According To Mark (10-11f)
Both boast smart bits of form. Beckett’s filly looked badly in need of the run when I was at Sandown, finishing 4.5L 3rd to Felicitas, who has gone on to run leading Oaks fancy Legacy Link to 0.75L at York. She then was unlucky to meet another ‘one’ at Salisbury, who has since won a race by 9L, albeit facing one rival.
According To Mark improved on his debut run to just being edged out by one that went on to be 6L 3rd to current Derby favourite Benvenuto Cellini at Chester.
It’s a tough call. The 5lb pull may just sway it in the fillies’ favour, but a better play is likely the reverse forecast, though unfortunately that won’t pay very much.
Two additions to today’s race is that Beckett enjoys a 24% strike rate at Pontefract, but the yard is a bit quiet of late, with no winners in the last eight days from 13 runners.
Good luck if having a bet today.
