Shams had a rumor that the Bulls and Vucevic are discussing an extension.

HoopsRumors reminds us that if this is a true extension (and not letting the contract expire and re-signing as an unrestricted free agent), the max he could receive a starting salary worth up to $26.4MM on a deal that covers as many as four years. (hoopsrumors.com/2023/05/bulls-nikola-vu…)

KC Johnson (who will tell you he’s not good at playing GM), “offered a short-term, two-year $48-50 million, or three-year $66-72 million contract as possible figures for Vucevic's next deal” (nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/report-bull…)

These are insane figures. As I said last month, Vuc should be retained only if on a role player salary. They cannot dedicate their payroll under the tax so much to a player that you have to compensate for everywhere else. They already do this for the other parts of the ‘big three’, who are far better players.

The Bulls need to break their Nikola Vucevic addiction
Vuc is too good to be a role player, but not good enough to be in any "core"
