“The School” by Daniel Barthelme, the 4th selection in You’ve Got to Read This*, originally published in The New Yorker.

A hilarious monologue about mortality told by Edgar, the teacher of an elementary school class, where his students learn about death. Over and over. The humor comes from escalation, with a brilliant callback at the end.

Super short, super funny, super good.
