Griffin Gooch’s last question was about whether to call himself an evangelical. As I told him, I think there’s a place for going either way on this, and in the context of specific relationships and ministries, it might be prudent to jettison the word. But there’s a difference between using other labels for the sake of others, as in that scenario, and avoiding “evangelical” because you’re ashamed.

As I’ve said and will keep saying: My claim is not that evangelicalism is perfect or that it should be immune from critique. But I am saying we do not need to be ashamed. It is not embarrassing to be an evangelical.
