As a side final observation before shooting my last question, when I finished reading the book, I thought “Man, this is like the metamodern update to Jesus and John Wayne.” For readers unfamiliar, whereas postmodernism seeks to cynically deconstruct everything until there’s nothing but wheel-spinning suspicion about power grabs, metamodernism identities cynical tendencies and the reality of evil while still charging forward, choosing hope and beauty and meaning over cynicism. Whereas Du Mez’s book felt very much in the genre of diagnosing issues for the sake of critiquing them, your book is more bent toward diagnosing critiques for the sake of redeeming issues. As such, yours felt practical, theological, and hopeful—and that’s very worth commending.
