At school, the word ‘nice’ was banned as an adjective. Considered lazy, unimaginative and uninteresting. So being referred to as ‘nice’ - even without the aforementioned ‘too’ - felt like an insult - a small chip chipping away at my personality and as a by-product, my self-esteem.
