The two towers of St. Mary’s Church in Kraków differ in height. The taller tower is used for the bugle call, while the church bell, Półzygmunt, hangs in the shorter tower. There are no architectural plans explaining this discrepancy, but a legend offers a dramatic story. During the reign of Duke Boleslaus the Modest (1243-1279), two brothers were tasked with building the towers. When the younger brother saw his tower was shorter, he killed his brother out of jealousy (WITH that knife dangling above tourists’ heads), halting the construction. Consumed by guilt, he later took his own life with the same knife on the day of the church's consecration.
