Anyone halfway successful with basic social skills gets invited to their friend’s lake houses, beach houses, ski houses, golf courses, etc…. All the time

Most of the time these people have these houses just to say they do or for their ego.

Unless you’re treating it like a business and constantly renting it out (which is also a massive, massive headache)

It’s simply not worth it.

It is however fantastic to get these invites for a weekend trip, show up with a few bottles of wine and cover some dinners out.

You can return the favor by covering some hotel suites for free with credit card points and inviting them.

Easier to sleep at night in a modest home in a safe neighborhood on a pile of money you saved by not playing the keep up with the joneses game.
