A classic and well-enacted Grant Wood "American Gothic" parody pose by photographer John Krause from 1984.
Variations of this image were used to promote the Hayloft in Studio City, California, and, with an added leather vest and cap, to adorn the cover of a 1985 issue of "Drummer."
At left is Eric Stryker / Noel Kemp / Mike Kelly / Mike Saunders — born Michael Skrzypcak — a super popular adult star who died at 33 on February 19, 1988, of AIDS complications.
This photo appeared the same year his lover died and Stryker was diagnosed with HIV. Stryker was an AIDS activist who marched publicly with his KS on full display, and who appeared in the 1987 film "It Starts with A." So many others (understandably) disappeared from view once diagnosed, but he took it as a new calling.
The painting was only 54 years old when they parodied it, and it's already been 41 years since Mr. Krause snapped this.
