To anyone still confused by events, the goal is not to increase security for Americans. This is only a secondary, maybe even tertiary, consideration, if it has been considered at all.

The goal is to collapse the Iranian state into anarchy for the benefit of Israel’s regional ambition.

Once you understand that this is Trump’s main priority, Israel’s regional hegemony, everything else makes sense. This is why the security and stability of Gulf allies are secondary concerns, this is why oil and gas capacity and trade are secondary, this is why NATO and other military/diplomatic considerations are secondary, etc…
